Information panels about 1960s border closure of the Bernauer Strasse subway station, Berlin Wall at Brunnenstrasse, Germany

The information panel in the foreground is entitled 'The Wall at Brunnenstrasse' and reads: 'The Bernauer Strasse subway station became a deserted ghost-station after the Wall was built. The trains that passed beneath East Berlin's city centre travelling from one end of West Berlin to the other did not stop here anymore. The station exit leading into West Berlin had already been closed by August 13 and was walled up on September 28. In August 1965 the other entrance was also walled up, the subway signs were dismantled and the entrance area was levelled. the subway station re-opened in April 1990.' Photographs accompanying the information show the sealed off subway station entrance (13 August 1961); building the wall in front of the subway station (23 August 1961); taking down the subway sign, 19 August 1965. The metal poles in the background mark the line of the Berlin Border Wall along Bernauerstrasse. A large metal 3D model of the Wall along Bernauerstrasse also stands in the background
