ISS astroculture. Astronaut Frank DeWinne next to a plant growth experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS). DeWinne, a Belgian astronaut, was on the ISS as part of the Odissea mission (30 October to 10 November 2002) of the European Space Agency (ESA). While on the ISS, he carried out a range of experiments. He arrived on the ISS as part of the Soyuz 5 Flight Crew, delivering a new Soyuz spacecraft and returning in the old one. The Soyuz spacecraft are the lifeboats for the ISS. The ISS is a joint effort by several national space agencies, including NASA. It orbits Earth at an altitude of 350 kilometres.
