Women in the communities of Woodside and Sunnyside in Queens participate in a free self-defense class on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Women in the Queens neighborhoods of Woodside and Sunnyside are understandingly nervous because of a rash of sexual assaults that have taken place since March of 2011. The class was organized by the NY City Council and taught by instructors from the Center for Anti-Violence Education. The women learned techniques to escape from a sexual predator. (© Frances M.
