This painting, titled On the Skirts of the Forest, was done by the English artist John Crome, also known as "Old Chrome" (1768-1821). Today is recognized as oneof the best English landscape painters. Dutch and Flemish painters and Gainsborough's "Painted Door" helped to form his style. In 1803 he founded the Norwich Society, which led to the formation of the famed Norwich School. He is at his best with tree pictures and he aimed at dignity and breadth.
