The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this natural color image of Super Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda as it moved west toward the coast of the Philippines. The image was acquired at 1:25 local time (4:25 Universal Time) on November 7, 2013. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Haiyan had sustained winds of 280 kilometers (170 miles) per hour when measurements were taken at 12:00 Universal Time.
