Mastiff (Dog-Faced) Bat Vessel, AD 200-850. The vessel illustrates two principles of the Moche style: keen interest in realism and in capturing activity at its peak. The bat’s head is depicted with great fidelity, and the animal may be portrayed dropping from its roost, just before it opens its wings and takes flight.
