Italy, Via Appia, Mausoleum of the Consul Messalla (Casale Rotondo), Relief Fragments

The mausoleum of the Consul Messalla, the Casale Rotondo, is a cylindrical tomb near the sixth milestone on the Appian Way (Via Appia). Next to it, an architectural coulisse was built under the direction of the Italian architect and archaeologist, Luigi Canina, combining marble fragments that had been found during the 19th century excavations.
