A sabre for officers,of the Imperial Guard. Slightly curved blade with broad fullers,the lower half etched,blued and gilt,one side inscribed "Garde Imperiale",the other face shows "Empire fran‡ois",the blade spine with maker's mark "Solingen". Brass knuckle-bow hilt retaining remnants of gilding with ebonised wooden grip. Scabbard covered with leather(renewed)with mountings decorated in relief and showing vestiges of gilding.
