Ruins at the deserted village of Ayios Sozomenos, Cyprus. A visit to the village is a trip to the past.

Agios Sozomenos, Cyprus- May 7, 2015: Agios Sozomenos, is a deserted village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, located close to the Green Line near Geri and Potamia villages. Agios Sozomenos is said to have been named after an early Cypriot saint. Until 1964, the village was mixed, inhabited by Greek and Turkish Cypriots. In 1958, Turkish Cypriots adopted the alternative name Arpalık, meaning “place of barley.” Most of the village is in ruins with the exception of the Church of Ayios Sozomenos. Near it, the ruins of the 16th-century Gothic church of Agios Mamas can also be found. A visit to the village is a trip to the past, evoking feelings of abandonment.
