In 1898 he wasa candidate, before the State legisla-ture, for United States senator, but adeadlock ensued and no one was elect-ed. He was again elected in April,1900, as a member of Congress. ElderKing has always been known as a con-sistent member of the Church, and onall occasions his voice has been raisedin behalf of his religious views. He wasordained an Elder in 1880 by ApostleOrson Pratt, subsequently he was or-dained a Seventy and served as one ofthe presidents of the 42nd quorum ofSeventy. Later he was ordained to theoffice of a High Priest and acted for anumber of years as a member of the. High Council in both Millard and UtahStakes. He was also a very activeworker in the mutual improvementcause in Millard Stake. For aboutfifteen years he has served as a homemissionary. Brother King is a man ofhigh intellectual attainments and indischarging the duties of his differentpublic positions he has made a brilliantrecord. As a Latter-day Saint he hasever been ready to give a reascm for hisbelief and both at home and abroad hehas been a willing champion for thetruth. As a public speaker and lec-turer he ranks high, being logical inhis thoughts and eloquent and forcefulin his delivery.—P. P. J.
