Evenings before: In the Trèves room of the Ministry of Transport in The Hague, the English Minister of Transport, Alfred Barnes, yesterday to his Dutch colleague, mr. D. C. W. Spitzen, handed over a check amounting to 850,000 pounds sterling. This amount, which corresponds to 9 million guilders, is used to settle claims against the English Government for renting out a large part of the Dutch merchant fleet during the war.
