ORTHOPEDIC APPLIANCES 333 Another type of appliance consists of an aluminiumsplint applied by means of a leathern cuff to the dorsalsurface of the forearm. From the lower part of thissplint four flat springs project, ending in rings,through which pass the first phalanges of the lastfour fingers. The rigidity of the springs is sufficient to correctthe wrist-drop, besides which it does not impede theaction of the flexors of the hand and fingers, so that
