In the celebratedCongress of 1775, Benjamin Har-rison and John Hancock wereIxjth candidates for the office ofspeaker. Mr Harrison was subsequentlychosen Governor of Virginia, andwas twice re-elected. His son,i William Henry, of course enjoyed in childhood all the advantages which wealth andintellectual and cultivated society could give. Hav-ing received a thorough common-school education, heentered Hampden Sidney College, where he graduatedwith honor soon the death of his father.
