Breast cancer. Light micrograph of a section through cancerous breast tissue. The cancer is an adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). A classic pattern of a honeycomb of ovoid spaces (white) and groups of tumour cells (purple) is seen. This is termed a cribriform pattern. ACC is a rare and slow-growing cancer. It normally occurs in the salivary glands, though primary sites also include breast, bone, lung and liver tissues. Treatment usually combines surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Carcinomas are malignant tumours (cancers) which arise from epithelial tissues, the tissues that are part of the skin and the internal linings of body organs and cavities. Magnification unknown.
