Lentigo, with a scale bar, on a man's leg. This flat brown patch of discolouration is caused by excessive production of the skin pigment melanin. Lentigo spots are thought to be caused by exposure to sunlight. They are benign, but sometimes they can develop into a slow-growing form of skin cancer.
