This is an adult female (9) in thebreeding season. 1, 1, are the same peculiar glands observedin the males; 2 is the ovary, a mass of spheres at thisseason quite yellow and prominent; 3 is the oviduct, oregg-passage, much enlarged in the present case, as it alwaysis dvuing the breeding season, when it assumes a thick,swollen appearance, while at other times it is translucent,much smaller, and resembles a narrow, whitish line, notreadily perceived.
