(Barrett.) Fig. 208.—Skin Excitator. (Mcintosh.) 240 PRACTICAL- ELECTRICITY IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY. For convenience of manipulation and to secure accurateand firm adaptation of the contacts to the skin so-called fixa-tion electrodes are used (Fig. 202). Those shown in the cutmay he used for the neck, thigh, leg, or arm. The precedingpage shows a number of special electrodes adapted for variouspurposes. Fig. 203 is a flexible electrode for the application of thecurrent to the head, or to painful surfaces, such as inflamedjoints. Fig. 204, a metallic foot-plate, which can be coveredwith a towel moistened with a warm saline solution, thus obvi-ating the necessity of using a sponge-covered electrode, whichsoon becomes dirty. Fig. 205 is an electrode with a long stem, for use along the spine, avoiding the necessity of removing theclothing. Fig. 206 is a massage electrode, which is very usefulin cases of chronic inflammation of the joints and chronic in-flammato
