Following King George III's speech at the opening of parliament in 1763, John Wilkes criticised it in issue No 45 of the "North Briton". The number was synonymous with the "Jacobite Rising of 1745" and after his arrest for sedition, people rioted chanting, "Wilkes, Liberty and Number 45", referring to the newspaper.
