BIRTH OF A GUN: THE PRODUCTION OF A 25 POUNDER FIELD GUN, 1942 - Florence Bradley (21), Mr Redfern, and Dorothy Stubbs (19) at work on recuperators in this factory producing 25 pounder field guns. The recuperator is a mechanism which takes the recoil when a shell is discharged. It has three chambers which are charged with oil and compressed air. Florence is filling the a recuperator with oil, Dorothy is putting air into a recuperator at 600lb per square inch and Dennis is working on a breech end
