A link to a bygone era carved in concrete on a railroad overpass in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood. Once trains of the giant New York Central Railroad passed by the sign featuring such notable trains as the 20th Century Limited carrying passengers in luxury between Chicago and New York City. The New York Central Railroad existed until 1968 when it merged with the rival Pennsylvania Railroad to become the Penn Central Railroad which went bankrupt shortly thereafter. It was then taken over by the federal government and became Conrail in 1976 and eventually absorbed by the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad systems.
