Ferdinand Freiherr von Hochstetter, 1882. Geologist and prehistorian. Took part in the Novara expedition in 1857-59, exploring New Zealand. Professor at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, director of the Museum of Natural History in 1876, established the anthropological-ethnographic section.
