A 19th Century view of the Caledonian Canal opened in 1822, at Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness. The canal connects the Scottish east coast at Inverness with the west coast at Corpach near Fort William in Scotland. The canal passing through the Scottish Highlands in a dramatic series of locks, was constructed in the early nineteenth century by Scottish engineer Thomas Telford.
