The agricultural societies of Manitoba developed this list of ideas at their annual conference. A. CAST OFF OR CHANGE OR QUESTION 1. Restrictions re: grants to agricultural societies 2. On a yearly basis, analyze the fair program and participation, then drop, change or add accordingly. B. INTERESTING IDEAS FOR CHANGE NOW OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE 1. Bring more young people into the agricultural society - orientate them properly - support them - allow them to be fully responsi- ble for projects 2. Assess your agricultural society and how it functions - how are decisions made? - how is business carried out? C. Sponsor non-fair events throughout the year 1. Educational events - short courses - "clean fields" competition - farm tours - education days - where there is no soil and water conservation group, assume their responsibilities for the benefit of the community. 2. Entertainment events - art shows - fiddling contests - barbershoppers - bonspiels (including as many young people as possible) - fashion show (involving as many businesses as possible) - craft shows (quilting and hand- work demonstrations) 3. Recognition events - an appreciation dinner and dance for volunteer fire fighters and ambulance drivers - a scholarship 4. Co-sponsor major community events - spearhead an event but invite other groups to become involved as well - co-operate 5. Improve fairs a) Capitalize on a theme (reunion, anniversary) b) Canvass people outside the a
