The river at this place is about 300 yardswide, and is uavigahle for steamhoats 16 miles ahove. Theprincipal thoroughfare from the S. W. to tlie Virginia Springsand Richmond passes through it; the great Railroad from Cov-ington to the Ohio river, when completed, will doubtless bringlarge accessions to its rapidly increasing trade and principal street extends about two miles on the bank ofthe Kanawha.
