Clifden and the Twelve Bens from the John D’Arcy monument, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. Clifden (Irish: An Clochán), is located on the Owenglin River where it flows into Clifden Bay. The town was founded in the 1820s by John D'Arcy (1785–1839) who lived in Clifden Castle (built around 1818, now a ruin) west of Clifden.
