Hilda Hempl Heller with her mother-in-law. At centre is US bacteriologist Hilda Hempl Heller (born 1891), with the mother of her husband Edmund Heller. Hilda Heller worked at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, USA. Born Hilda Hempl, she married zoologist Edmund Heller (1875-1939) in 1918 and she accompanied him on three of his expeditions, including trips to Peru and the Amazon. They divorced in 1928, and she continued to carry out field work in Peru. This photograph is thought to date from before 1928.
