Chauncey M. was a large attendance, consisting of the Trus-tees, Faculty, Alumni and other friends of the institu-tion, beside the medical class who were present in abody. Subsequently the work proceeded without seriousinterruption ; but the substantial character of thebuilding required a liberal allowance of time for itsconstruction. The walls and roof were completed byDecember. Tlu; interior work went on during thesucceeding months ; and the building was made readyand inaugurated with appropriate exercises on Thurs-day, September 29th, 1887. The annual college ses-sion was opened on the following Monday. The college edifice consists of three connectedstructures ; namely, a main building, fronting on I70 THE COLLEGE LN 60 + ^ 5-J- RtET. -Sj)* 5T R ETT -? FIFTY-NINTH STREET. 171 Fifty-ninth street, containing offices, museums, studyand recitation rooms, professors rooms, and the de-partment of practical anatomy ; a middle building oc-cupying the central part of the grounds, in which arethe main stairway hall, the lecture room, the amphi-theatre, and the rear stairway ; and a north buildingor laboratory wing, facing Sixtieth street, containingthe janitors quarters, the chemical laboratories, andthe laboratories of the Alumni Association. Outside,and adjacent to the middle building on the east, arethe boiler house, and a one-story laboratory annex ;and near by a carriage house, with rooms on thesecond floor for the accommodation of three buildings are of brick and terra cotta, fur-nished in various parts with granite sill-courses, lintels,quoins and copings.
