Nano-laser. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a nano-laser from a microelectromechanic- al system (MEMS). MEMS include tiny robots (nanorobots), as well as miniature laboratories (\labs on a chip\") which can be used in diagnostic devices and sensors. As well as being tiny, MEMS are light and can be made cheaply. This laser was made by Richard Slusher from Bell Laboratories, USA. Magnification: x14535 at 6x7cm size. x25,000 at 4x5 inch size."
