Fig. 37.—a, Gasserian ganglion block; b, medial orbital block; c, lateral orbital block:d, ciliary ganglion block. The nasociliary nerve enters the orbit through the sphenoidalfissure, between the heads of the external rectus muscle, passes obliquelyinward across the optic nerve, between the superior and internal rectimuscles, reaches the anterior ethmoidal foramen, and enters the cranialcavity through that foramen under the name of anterior ethmoidal ornasal nerve. 68 REGIONAL ANESTHESIA The nasal nerve, continuing the course of the nasociliary nerve, leaves the cranium through the nasal fissure of the cribriform plate ofthe ethmoid bone, enters the nasal fossa and breaks up into its threeterminal branches, the internal, external, and anterior nasal last branch passes out of the nasal fossa at the union of thelower margin of the nasal bone and the nasal cartilage and supplies theskin of the forepart and tip of the nose. In the orbit the nasocialiarynerve gives off a gang
