A 13th century illustration of Pope Eleutherius, who was pontiff from AD174 to AD189, recieveing the messanger from King Lucius. He was the thirteenth pope. The legend that this pope was recieved in Britain is now largely discredited. It is now believed that he was recieved by a Syrian king of the same name.
