Persepolis (Persian: Takht-e Jamshid or Párseh), "city of Persians", the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire. Persepolis is situated 70 km northeast of city of Shiraz. Since 1979 the site of Unesco World Heritage. The city was established probably by Cyrus the Great (Kūrosh), but it was Darius I (Daryush) who started to built the terrace and the great palaces.
