The September exhibition of the New- port Horticultural Society will be held in the convention hall, at Newport Beach, Thursday and Friday, September 15 and 16, with the annual ball of the society on the closing night of the show. Plans for the show and ball were discussed at the regular monthly meet- ing, held in Music hall, Tuesday eve- ning, August 23, at which there was a much larger attendance than has been present at several meetings past. The premium lists were issued and it was announced that a special premium list would be issued for the children's classes, which will be distributed through the schools as soon as they open for the fall term. It is expected that there will be more interest mani- fested in the coming show than in the last two or three, as there are so many of the summer residents liere who have always given hearty support to the ex- hibitions. Leikcn's had an especially busy time last week, a number of social events creating an active demand. The decorations of white hydrangeas and palms at the artists' ball of the Newport Art Club last week were loaned and arranged by Mrs. James Ware Putnam. John T. Allan has returned to liis home at Ochre Point from the Newport hospital after two successful o]iera- tions.
