Enlarged prostate. Coloured coronal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan through the groin of a man with a massively enlarged prostate gland (centre). The prostate gland surround the urethra at the base of the bladder, and this degree of enlargement would make urination difficult. The condition here is benign prostatic hypertrophy, where the prostate gland enlarges due to an increase in the size of its cells. Treatment of severe cases of prostate enlargement involves surgical removal of the prostate gland.
