According to Greek mythology and legend, Telemachus was the son of Penelope and Odysseus, a Trojan War hero whose return trip home took 10 years. In the epic, Odyssey, by the Greek poet Homer, the goddess Athena appears to Telemachus and urges him to go to Sparta and Pylos to see if anyone at either place has any news about his father.
