Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages (1810-1892). 1856 illustration of the French biologist and physician Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Breau. De Quatrefages was professor of natural history at the Lycee Napoleon, Paris, France, in 1850, he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 1852, and in 1855 was appointed to the chair of anthropology and ethnography at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle. He received many other awards including: honorary member of the Royal Society of London (1879), member of the Institute and of the Academie de medecine, and commander of the Legion of Honor (1881).
