The officers and men who were killed wereburied together, close to the beach in an are now much reduced in strength, but thespirit of the old corps is just as strong as ever itwas. Major Adams, who wrote this account, was buriedjust above the beach on May 11. The regiment at onetime hoped to erect a permanent monument on thebeach to their comrades who fell there.
