India: Officer of the 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Rajput Light Infantry. Caricature style gouache painting by Godfrey Herbert Brennan (1875-1948), 1910. The 2nd Rajput was originally established by the British East India Company as a Bengal Native Battalion in 1798 and was brought under royal authority with the declaration of Queen Victoria as Empress of India in 1876. The regiment served in campaigns such as the Second Afghan War, the Boxer Rebellion and the First World War, before being amalgamated with five other Rajput regiments in 1922.
