Injecting genetic material, polarised light micrograph. Foreign DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) being injected into a pronuclear mouse (Mus musculus) egg
Injecting genetic material, polarised light micrograph. Foreign DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) being injected into a pronuclear mouse (Mus musculus) egg (female reproductive cells). This procedure is known as transgenesis. The genetic material from this cell has been removed and replaced with genetic material from a cell of another animal species. If the genetic material is from a cell from an animal in the same species it is called cisgenesis. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
