Many of the grand hotels in South Shore are now boarded up, Efforts have been made to revive the towns moribund tourist industry, but the forgotten Lancashire resort's Golden Mile is now pallid reflection of its former self. By 2000 some bed-and-breakfast prices had fallen as low as £10 per night, which left no money for investments in improvements.
