The value of lodge property isestimated as being about $1,200. I. O. O. F.—This lodge was organized under dispensa-tion granted March 15, 1870. The initial members were :H. A. Sowle, J. P. Tracey, A. G. Schulz, Charles Hubbard,George B. Robinson, L. S. Benjamin, R. Kinmore and. Drake House; George II. Drake Proprietor, Tomau, Wis. Dahen, a German, who has about thirty-two pupils. Thestudies taught are identical with those taught at the districtschools, the only difference being that the children are com-pelled to study in German. Catholic Society.—The first organization of the CatholicChurch at Tomah, was in the year 1867, the first pastor be-ing the Rev. M. M. Marks, who attended from La same year the present church was erected, at a cost of$2,500. The church was built under the supervision ofRev. John Casey, who attended from Mauston.
