Wirksworth Great Barmote Court. A member of the jury chatting with the representative from the Duchy of Lancaster beforehand, when a Miner's Feast of bread, ale and cheese is held. The Derbyshire White Peak has been the site of lead mining activity since Roman times, and the feast dates from the time when lead miners would have walked several miles over the moors to attend. Barmote Courts have been held since 1288 and are thought to be the oldest industrial courts in the world. The Great Barmote Court held annually on the 3rd Wednesday in April at the Moot Hall, Wirksworth.
