From a prepara-tion in the authors collection. branous framework, also observed by Schmiegelow, is formed by a number ofinconstant folds and bridges of mucous membrane, which run from the externalsurface of the malleo-incudal body to the opposite tympanic wall. The mostconstant of these is the external malleo-incudal fold, which often divides theexternal attic into three overlying spaces. Prussaks space communicates onthe one hand with the upper part of the attic, and on the other with the posteriortympanic pouch ; it opens posteriorly into the tympanum by a small, round,or slit-like orifice which is hidden by the incus.
