A sectionthrough the cerebral hemispheres on a level wdth thecorpus callosum is called the centrum ovale majus. Thissection exposes the upper surface of the corpus callosum, which is the great transverse commissure between thetwo cerebral hemispheres. On its upper surface areseen some longitudinal elevations of white fibres calledthe nerves of Lancisi. The upper surface of this com-missure is slightly wavy from front to back. The under 19 290 PRACTICAL AX ATOM V surface forms the roof of the lateral ventricles, which , cuboidal, serous sinuses, presenting forexamination a roof, a floor, an inner wall and an outerwall, an anterior cornu, a posterior cornu, and a middlecornu. The roof of the lateral ventricle, formed by thecorpus callosum. as above stated, is arched from front to Sim Ccl. Fig. 126.—Ce>tetjm Ovale Majts. The floor of each ventricle is made up of thefollowing: structures:— Corpus striatum,Optic thalamus,Edffe of fornix, Taenia semicircularis, Choroid plexus,Fornix. The floor of the ventricle is very irregular. Theouter wall is formed by the fibres of the cerebral hemi- THE LATERAL VENTRICLES. 291 sphere. The inner wall is formed by the septum luci-dum, which is the vertical partition between the rightand left lateral ventricles. The anterior cornii is anextension of the lateral ventricle into the anterior lobe. ah
