Mons Judica (Monte Judica), ruins of medieval watchtower and control. Sicily
On the western side of Mt. Judica, overcoming the Hellenistic fortifications will reach the highest point of the complex orographic. Here are a few ruins visible associated with a fortified building probably medieval. It is apparent to a height of one meter a quadrangular wall structure with a thickness of about meters consists of local stone limestone blocks blanks and tied with plenty of mortar. This structure ends a few meters to the south where it begins a massive quarry that destroyed permanently dismiss the rest of the system. Continuing westward emerge from the ground other walled structures probably associated with the medieval fortification. The historian Roger I of Hauteville, Goffredo Malaterra, reports that in 1076 the castle and the village on Mount Judica were put under siege and then conquered by the royal troops. This is important evidence showing the existence of a castle and a fortified village in the Arabic age who is said by the name of Zotica, perhaps as a continuation of an existing settlement in late antiquity.
