In the Roman epic poem, Aeneid, by Virgil, Nisus and Euryalus are two very good friends. They escape burning Troy with Aeneas and travel with him to Italy. When Aeneas goes in search of In Book 9, they enter the enemy camp of the Latins at night. They slaughter many Latins, but as they leave and are on their way back to their camp, the Latin helmet that Euryalus took glistens, attracting the attention of Latins. Misus manages to escape, but Euryalus is captured. Nisus returns to save his friend, as is shown here in this illustration that dates to around 1900.
