During 1906 and 1907 heacted as assistant professor of mechanical engineering inthe University of Michigan, and in 1908 and 1909 he wasnon-resident lecturer in the electrical engineering depart-ment of the B. J. DENMAN Obituary Henry Hyde Whitman, assistant counsel to the PublicService Commission for the First District of New York,is dead. He was formerly a member of the law firm ofButler, Stillman & Hubbard. Mr. Whitman was born atLewiston, Me., fifty-six years ago. He was graduated fromHarvard University and from the Columbia Law School. Thomas A. Cashin, superintendent of the Municipal Rail-way, San Francisco, Cal., died at his home in that city onDec. 5, after several months illness. Mr. Cashin was bornin San Francisco thirty-eight years ago. He was appointedsuperintendent of the Municipal Railway on Oct. 1, 1912,before the construction of the first line was completed. Thesuccess of the system is attributed largely to his efficientmanagement. Previous to this appointment to the MunicipalRailway Mr. Cashin served as assistant engineer of way andstructures for the United Railroads, and later was superin-tendent of the Fresno (Cal.)
