THOMAS, Richard Kendall, a prominent Elder in the Seventh Ward,Salt Lake City, was born June 30, 1844,at Saint Columb, county of He was baptized into theChurch by Elder John Alford in about sixteen years of age, hewas ordained to the Priesthood and sentout to do missionary work. In May,1863, he together with other Saintssailed from Liverpool for America, andwas made clerk of the company byPres. Geo. Q. Cannon. He crossed theplains in Captain Rosel Hydes com-. ])any, and on arriving in the Valley helocated in Salt Lake City. In the spring of 1865 he mar-ried and went to Richmond, Cachecounty, where he ooened up a storefor B. H. Young. Later, he became aclerk in Z. C. M. I., Salt Lake City,and in the fall of 1870 he became anemployee of Walker Bros., and acted asbuyer and manager of their dry goodsdepartment. In 1885 he commencedbusiness on his own account by open-ing the R. K. Thomas Dry Goods Salt Lake City, and he is still suc-cessfully conducting that business.
