This soon led to the complete substitution offlowing lines for geometrical forms in the tracery;and the Curvilinear or Flowing style began earlyin the fourteenth century, and lasted about fiftyyears, ending about 1360. Flowing tracery arosefrom the omission of portions of the enclosingcircle, thus allowing the ribs to run into oneanother, forming lines of double curvature like anelongated S; the juxtaposition of the foliationswithout enclosing circles produced curves of con-traflexure (or twisting back) which resulted in anogee shape, so that the circle shape t
