About half a mile from the central part of Trenton, is the beau-tiful covered bridge across the Delaware, justly considered one ofthe finest specimens of bridge architecture, of wood, in the bridge, 1,100 feet in length, was commenced in May, 1804, MERCER COUNTY. 287 and finished in Feb., 1806, at an expense of $180,000. It reflectscredit upon Mr. Burr, its architect, combining, as it does, the threegreat objects, convenience of travelling, strength, and floor is supported by perpendicular iron rods hanging from thearches. It withstood the great flood of 1841, unharmed ; while themore frail structures of a later day were swept away. It is cross-ed by the Philadelphia and Trenton View of the County Buildings, South Trenton. The annexed is an eastern view of the county buildings inSouth Trenton, erected upon the formation of Mercer co. The largebuilding in the centre is the courthouse ; that on the left, the sur-rogates, and the one on the right, the clerks office. These edificesare built of brick, in the Grecian style, and stuccoed. The stepsare of granite, and the basement of sandstone.
