William, fecond duke of Manchefter^ and eldeft fon of the former,was born in April, 1700. Soon after his fathers death he was appointedlord lieutenant and cuftos rotulorum of the county of Huntingdon ; and,when the order of the Bath Vvas revived by king George I. he was nomi-nated one of the knights.
